Parental Involvement and Home Visits

Student success and performance is affected not only by teachers but also by parents and environment. Therefore, parental involvement is a significant part of our school’s strategic goals. We have created a new Home School Organization (HSO) policy, which resulted in establishing a separate HSO in each school building to increase parental participation.

Each school’s teachers perform home visits to understand student abilities, concerns, and problems, creating a supportive triad of parent-student-teacher relationships. During home visits, teachers encourage parents to take an active role in their student’s learning at home. As part of this program, SANY educators contact a minimum of 10 school parents each week and carry out a minimum of 12 home visits each academic year. Several teachers carry out more than 20 home visits during the academic year. The school receives many compliments regarding the home-visit program, which is one of the key elements in our parent-outreach activity.

In grades K-8, our elementary and middle schools organize several events throughout the year that encourage parent participation in school activities, such as Grandparents’ Day, Donuts for Dad, Muffins for Mom, field days, academic fun nights, girl empowerment nights, school dances, and winter/spring concerts and art shows. In addition, each school holds an annual Dean’s dinner for high honor roll students in grades 5-12. Parents and grandparents of the honored students are invited to the formal dinner to celebrate their children’s performance.

To enable parents to stay actively involved in their children’s education, the SANY Schools Student Database System provides parents, students, teachers, and administrators online access to applicable assignments, teacher comments, test scores, and attendance instantly. Teachers can use the database to post comments regarding student performance. Therefore, it is interactive and allows for a two-way communication stream between parents and teachers.
